Consider yourself going to the dinner party and there are two food items. One a chicken broast and another sweet dish, fruit custard. After the dinner is served and eaten by the people, one of the persons stands up and says that “the dinner was tasteless and worthless of eating, such waste an of time and food.” Afterwards, he starts comparing the food and said, “there was no meat in the sweet dish, no salts, no spice” adding on he says that “there were no fruits in the chicken broast, broast wasn't chilled.”

Are you surprised to read the upper mentioned story? I hope you shouldn't get surprised to read that. The person was right, not only right he was the most genius man on the planet earth. Now I am about to reveal who that person was. Are you curious to know? Well, the answer may surprise you. The person at that dinner party lives among us or inside us!!!

Let me get straight to the point. That person the party who compared fruits custard with chicken broast lives in our society, in our houses or sometimes in ourselves. The only difference here is, he was comparing two different types of foods and we compare ourselves with others. Custard and broast are totally different in the ingredients and process through which they are made. In our society, we would find plenty of those people who compare one child with another or simply oneself with another.

Take a look into how one is different from another. Consider a baby boy Zain is born, he has the genes of his parents. Then Zain grows up in different environmental situations, these situation makes up the personality of a Zain. Challenges and experiences he goes through also impact his personality. If the genes, environment, challenges of Zain are different from his friends, then why his parents or Zain himself or society compares Zain with others?

Many of our personality traits come from our parents from genes or through learning. We are competent in those areas in which we are facing. Our mind is different from others, our perception is different. Then why do we compare ourselves with others?

Journalists mainly work is related to reporting and writing and general physician mainly work is to diagnose the disease and give the medician to cure it. What if I started comparing the work of a journalist with a general physician, what would people say to me?… intelligent or abnormal? The point is everyone is different and unique in their own way. Hope you have understood that next time you won't compare yourself with others.

Compare yourself! but, with who? with your own self. Compare your today with your yesterday. Compare that if you are getting better or getting worse day by day. Keep a journal and track your progress. Canadain clinical psychologist, Jordan B Peterson said, “Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today.”

In a nutshell, if you compare yourself with others it will ruin your life and you won't make any progress, but if you compare yourself with yourself you will make progress.
